Full-size SUVs Fighting to be First

An SUV is an ideal choice for going on a long-haul trip. The best SUV will combine power with luxury and have the space and safety to bring your whole family along. But how do you know which is the best SUV?

Today we compare two SUVs competing to be the best of the best. Will the GMC Yukon be the best vehicle, or will the Ford Expedition take the prize?

Power and Fuel Efficiency

The GMC Yukon comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8 engine, with the option to upgrade to a Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine. In higher trim levels, the Yukon reaches 756 miles in range and has an efficiency of up to 27 miles per gallon. If you want to bring more with you, Yukon’s available Max Trailering Package has a capability of 8,400 lbs.

The Ford Expedition comes standard with a 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine. It has a fuel range of about 530 miles and an efficiency of up to 23 miles per gallon. The Expedition also has an available package that gives you up to 9,300 lbs of towing capability.

Passenger and Cargo Space

Both vehicles can comfortably seat eight passengers. The Yukon’s cargo space offers 25.5 cubic feet of room or 122.9 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Expedition’s cargo space provides 20.9 cubic feet of storage and 104.6 cubic feet if the seats are all folded.

Driver Assist Technology

Both SUVs have an impressive range of entertainment and safety features, including:

  • A WiFi Hotspot
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Navigation System
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Lane Departure Warning

Value for Price

The GMC Yukon has four trim levels, ranging in price from $53,000 – $70,000, the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The Ford Expedition has a similar range, from $50,000 to $74,000. However, six trim levels are available: XL STX, XLT, Timberline, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum.

Denali and Platinum trims are both luxury trims and will give you the best in comfort and features, but at a hefty cost. The cheaper trims could be better for some people, but the lack of features may be a downside.

GMC Yukon vs Ford Expedition: Who Wins?

Both of these SUVs are the best of the best, but which one is better between the two?

They have similar technology and safety features, and their pricing is comparable. Passenger space is practically the same. In many ways, these two vehicles are identical. However, there were a few points where one shined.

The Yukon has a smooth, luxury feel, with more range and storage. Its fuel efficiency is higher than the Expedition has. And in the Denali trim, it will carry a family in complete comfort for a long trip.

While the Expedition has a better capability for towing and is a safe, reliable SUV, the Yukon has shown how it can stand above the rest.
