A Comprehensive Look at GMC Sierra Trims
The GMC Sierra has enjoyed iconic status for almost three decades. Now squarely in its fifth generation, the GMC Sierra continues to sell in large numbers across the US.
If you're looking to buy a new GMC Sierra, you'll find there are several trim levels to choose from. Our handy guide will describe each grade, so you can make an informed and confident decision. Read on, and we'll unpack the GMC Sierra trim levels in order.
GMC Sierra PRO
Positioned as the base-level trim, the PRO grade still offers plenty of convenience features, and practicality. Your choice of Regular, Double, or Crew cab configurations is available, along with Short, Standard, or Long bed options. A 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output engine comes standard, with the ability to upgrade to a 5.3-liter V8. When properly equipped, the GMC Sierra PRO can tow a maximum of 9,500 pounds. Creature comforts like a 7-inch infotainment screen, Rear Vision Camera and a CornerStep rear bumper are included in the $35,400 starting price.
GMC Sierra SLE
Next in line is the Sierra SLE trim. Double or Crew cabs are offered, along with Short, Standard, or Long bed options. All tailgates receive GMC's EZ Lift Assist with power lock and release. The same 2.7-liter engine from the PRO grade is standard, with the option to upgrade to a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel engine. Gone is the 7-inch infotainment screen, and replaced with a much larger 13.4-inch screen, along with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. This screen configuration is standard on all trim levels following the SLE grade. Prices begin at $46,660.
GMC Sierra Elevation
Third on our list of GMC trim levels explained is the Elevation trim, a more off-road-oriented grade. Ground clearance is ratcheted up to about eight inches to help with fording deeper ruts and trails. Starting at $48,300, the Elevation offers Crew cab/short bed, or Double cab/Standard bed configurations only, along with engine options identical to the SLE. A 13.4-inch infotainment screen paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, along with a Rear Vision Camera and a heated steering wheel. Good news for audiophiles, the Elevation trim comes with an optional Bose® audio system.
GMC Sierra SLT
The SLT trim is the step up from the SLE trim and is one of the more popular grades offered in the GMC Sierra lineup. Double and Crew cabs come with the option of a Short or Standard bed with EZ Lift assist tailgates, and the 5.3-liter V8 featuring Dynamic Fuel Management is standard. Infotainment and gauge cluster screen sizes remain the same, but you do get dual-zone climate control, Automatic Locking Rear Differential, LED cargo box lighting, and LED tail lights. SLT pricing begins around $52,200.

GMC Sierra AT4
GMC positions the AT4 trim as a luxurious, yet off-road-ready grade. Receiving a further increase in ground clearance over the Elevation trim, the AT4 enjoys a minimum ground clearance of just over 11 inches. A Crew cab/short bed with a spray-in bedliner is the only body configuration, and the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel Engine is the sole motor option. Interior tech is identical to the SLT, but you do get an HD Rear Vision Camera, along with available IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlights, and standard Hill Descent Control. Prices start at $62,500.
GMC Sierra AT4X
The AT4X trim takes the regular AT4 to the next level. It features upgrades like a 6.2-liter V8 engine, Multimatic™ DSSV Spool-Valve Dampers, and Front and Rear E-locking Differentials which all make for a formidable off-road pickup truck. Creature comforts are also upgraded, with things like heated and ventilated 16-way power front seats with massage, and a standard 12-speaker Bose® Premium Series with Centerpoint Surround Sound audio system. Real wood and Full-Grain leather are used throughout the cabin. AT4X pricing begins at $76,500.
GMC Sierra Denali
The Coveted Denali trim makes its appearance on the new GMC Sierra, with all the tech and features you'd expect. GMC states, "If you demand the highest quality materials and a stylish design, the GMC Sierra Denali is the only pickup truck you need." Crew cab/Short box is the only body configuration available, along with the sole engine option: the 5.3-liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management capability. Most of the previously mentioned interior features such as leather, the large infotainment and digital gauge cluster screens, and HD Rear Vision Camera are standard on the Denali. However, you miss out on massage seats, standard Bose® audio, and navigation. As of now, pricing starts at $62,800.
GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate
If the Denali isn't enough luxury for you, the Denali Ultimate aims to fill that gap by being the most affluent of the GMC Sierra 1500 trim packages. Only available in a Crew cab/Short box configuration, the Denali Ultimate packs every feature GMC has to offer into a pickup. The powerful 6.2-liter V8 comes standard, with the option to choose the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. All options present in the aforementioned Denali's interior are standard, along with heated and ventilated 16-way power and massage front seats and the 12-speaker Bose® Premium Series with Centerpoint Surround Sound system. Denali Ultimate pricing begins at $81,900.
GMC Sierra 2500 Trim Levels
The GMC 2500 is the heavier-duty alternative to the 1500, offering a choice between two engines: a 6.6-liter Gasoline V8, and the 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel V8, and can tow a maximum of 18,500 pounds when properly equipped. The 2500 offers most of the previously mentioned trim levels, including the base-level PRO, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, with only the Elevation and AT4X trims being left out of the GMC 2500 trim levels.
